The plug-in hybrid technology of the BMW 5 Series Sedan.
Two in perfect harmony: the BMW 5 Series Sedan plug-in hybrids BMW 520e**, BMW 530e**, BMW 530e xDrive** and BMW 545e xDrive** combine the BMW eDrive electric drive technology with a powerful BMW combustion engine. Together the two drive units produce a driving experience that links maximum efficiency with supreme driving pleasure – and, depending on the drive mode, either locally emission-free and almost silent or with a thrillingly high torque and sufficient reserves for longer journeys as well. In the BMW 530e xDrive** and BMW 545e xDrive** models, the all-wheel drive system BMW xDrive is an extra guarantee of optimum dynamics and traction. Charging the BMW 5 Series Sedan plug-in hybrids.
Whether at home or on the road: BMW Charging offers you tailor-made solutions for charging your BMW 5 Series Sedan with hybrid drive. Alongside the Standard charging cable (mode 2) for domestic socket outlets supplied as a regular feature, the BMW Wallbox provides you with an extremely convenient, safe and fast method of charging. The Smart Wallbox from our partner offers more additional services for intelligent charging. The installation service ensures straightforward and correct mounting of the wallboxes. The Flexible Fast Charger is available for maximum flexibility during charging at home and enables you to charge your BMW plug-in hybrid from every domestic or industrial socket using a variety of different adapters. Driving Assistant Professional.
Driving Assistant Professional offers optimum comfort and safety during critical or monotonous traffic situations. Apart from the contents of the Driving Assistant, it also includes Steering and Lane Control Assistant with extended functions, Emergency Stop Assistant and Lane Keeping Assistant with active side collision protection.
Reversing Assistant.
The Reversing Assistant stores the last 50 m of the driven path in forward travel up to 35 km/h, so that it can be retracted if required. You are relieved of the steering work and can concentrate on monitoring the vehicle environment.
BMW Laserlight.
In laser high-beam mode, BMW Laserlight illuminates a range of up to 650 m, nearly twice as far as that of conventional headlights. Better visibility in the dark significantly increases safety. Blue accents and the lettering “BMW Laser” in the headlight also underline the technological standards and the sportiness of the vehicle.
BMW Live Cockpit Professional.
The BMW Live Cockpit Professional with navigation function includes two high-quality displays consisting of a high-resolution 12.3" Control Display that can be operated by touch and a fully digital 12.3" instrument display. The BMW Operating System 7 can also be operated via the iDrive Controller*.
*For this vehicle model, the touch functionality for the iDrive controller can currently not be offered.
Smartphone Integration.
Why go without the features of your smartphone in your BMW when you can continue operating it as usual? Smartphone integration connects your smartphone wirelessly to your vehicle via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This allows you to conveniently use functions and various apps directly via the control display.
BMW Digital Key.
The BMW Digital Key turns your compatible smartphone* into a vehicle key. To unlock, simply hold the smartphone next to the door handle; before starting your BMW place it on the smartphone tray. In addition, you can send a Digital Key to up to five friends, and even limit the maximum speed, for example – ideal for novice drivers.

Mild hybrid technology BMW 5 Series Sedan.
The mild hybrid technology serves to recuperate the kinetic energy during braking and supports the combustion engine during acceleration. This reduces fuel consumption and emissions while giving you a dynamic advantage. The mild hybrid technology also makes the Automatic Start/Stop function much faster and much more comfortable.
Adaptive suspension.
The Adaptive suspension makes it possible to ideally adjust the damper characteristics to suit any given driving situation, improving roll comfort and driving dynamics. In addition to the standard COMFORT setting for increased driving comfort, the SPORT program can also be selected for athletic damper settings.
Integral Active Steering.
Integral Active Steering combines support that varies based on the steering angle on the front axle, and rear wheels that also contribute to steering. At lower speeds, it offers greater manoeuvrability and agility by turning the rear wheels opposite the front wheels. Beginning around 60 to 80 km/h, the rear wheels turn parallel to the front wheels, to increase driving stability and comfort.
BMW xDrive.
The intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel drive system smoothly and variably distributes drive power to the front and rear wheels for added traction, driving dynamics and safety in every driving situation. For even better agility, the electronically controlled power distribution for instance counterbalances oversteer or understeer on bends.
